Mitchie’s Jetty is a Merimbula icon. Any touristic photo or artist’s rendition of the town incorporates the pink roof of the jetty’s shed as a central feature. The jetty is also home to Fishpen Charters, a fishing and whale watching charter business run for the last 22 years by the Deveril family. The jetty and shed have been transformed during this period, from a two ramp jetty used for commercial fishing, to the current set-up with its colorful roof and seating.
When Bill and Fay purchased the jetty in 1978 from the Mitchelson Estate they had little idea of how significant the old timber structure and shed would become to their lives - it soon became an extension of their backyard for their children and grandchildren. Today Mitchie’s Jetty is an important daily feature in the lives of many people in the area - whether they come to the jetty for swimming, fishing, kayaking or just gathering for a coffee. Thousands of tourists and locals each year use the jetty and the surrounding beach to enjoy water sports on the lake.
